  • Individual Donors

If you are an individual, then 100% of your donation goes to the cause.

Gift Aid allows us to claim an additional 25% of your gift back from the UK Government which we then use to administer the charity, pay bank charges and other ongoing administrative costs.

    Companies & Organisations

If you are a company or organisation then 90% of your gift will go to the cause and 10% will cover the costs of transferring your money overseas, etc.

However, this may change to 95% for regular donations or even 100% depending on the situation and amounts.

  • Yes, anyone can become a WayMaker by making a donation. Individuals, Companies, organisations, or clubs can donate.

As WayMaker is a registered charity, companies and some other organisations can get tax relief on their donations and WayMaker will give them the necessary receipts of payment to do that.

For this reason, WayMaker is unable to claim Gift Aid on these donations.

  • Sort of. While you can’t donate to WayMaker completely anonymously, as our Trustees require full donor information to comply with charity law and anti–money laundering regulations, we absolutely respect your privacy. We will never share your details with project partners or make your donation public without your explicit permission. So while your donation isn’t anonymous to WayMaker, it can remain entirely private beyond that, unless you choose to share your story or provide a testimonial.

  • Item descriptionYes, as a registered charity leaving money to WayMaker in your Will is a great way to leave a positive legacy for the future.

It can also reduce the amount of tax paid by the rest of your estate so your family can get the most out of their inheritance.

If you wanted to do this make sure you use our full name, WayMaker International, and our charity number, 1199440

  • Yes, Not Yet, and Sometimes!

Yes – We partner with an organisation that helps recycle and reuse mobile phones and tablets, giving them a second life with new owners in Africa.

Not Yet – We don’t currently have a charity shop, but we’re actively working on it!

Sometimes – Occasionally, WayMaker sends out a 40-foot shipping container to support a specific project. When that happens, we’ll launch a focused appeal for the items we need. If you’re signed up to our mailing list, you’ll be among the first to hear about it.

  • Not yet — but we’re working on it!

We’re currently exploring the launch of our first WayMaker charity shop to help raise funds and awareness for our projects. It’s an exciting step, and we’ll share more as soon as we’re ready. If you’d like to stay in the loop, make sure you’re signed up to our mailing list.

  • Yes. WayMaker is a registered charity in England and Wales (1199440) and is registered with HMRC for gift aid.

This means that we can claim an additional 25% of any donation back from the Government at no cost to you. THIS INCLUDES ONE-OFF DONATIONS TOO

So, please, when you make your One-Off online donation, please check the Gift Aid box when you donate, and WayMaker will do all the rest.

  • Gift Aid works by WayMaker claiming back the tax an individual would have paid on their donation.

All that is required is that you be a taxpayer who has paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year.

So, if, as a pensioner, you meet these requirements, then your gifts can still qualify for Gift Aid.

  • No, you only need to make a Gift Aid declaration once. After that, WayMaker can claim Gift Aid on all your future donations, as well as any donations you’ve made in the past four years.

If your tax circumstances change, please do let us know.

That said, when giving online, it’s so quick to tick the Gift Aid box that if you do it more than once, it never hurts, but one declaration is all that’s needed.

  • Yes, absolutely. You’ll find a link to download the form at the bottom of this page. Just print it out and post it back to us, or if it’s easier, you can scan it or take a clear photo and email it to andy@waymaker.org.uk.

Governance
Questions

  • Just one part-time, and the rest are all volunteers.

From June 2024, Andy, our founder, became WayMaker’s first part-time employee. After two years of remarkable progress with Andy volunteering his time, the Trustees agreed that even more could be achieved if he could focus fully on the work of WayMaker.

Importantly, no money donated to specific projects is ever used to cover salaries. Staff costs are met through general funds, the Partner Programme, Gift Aid, and donors who give specifically to support WayMaker’s overall mission.

Everyone else, including our trustees, accountants, bookkeepers, and advisors, gives their time freely as volunteers.

  • This is a vital part of our responsibility as a registered charity, and we take it seriously.

WayMaker has a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in place for all partners we fund. We only work with individuals and organisations we already know and trust. This reflects our core value of being friends first.

Every project begins with a grant application reviewed by the Trustees. If approved, the first phase, called Phase Zero, involves either architectural plans and a quantity survey for building projects, or a feasibility study and costings for other types of work. This allows us to plan and fund the project in clearly defined stages.

The project is then broken into phases. Funds for each new phase are only released when we receive clear evidence that the previous phase has been completed to standard.

This phased, relationship-based approach ensures accountability, transparency, and good stewardship of every donation.
