Make a Way for a Child in Tanzania
In Tanzania, poverty continues to be a daily struggle for millions. Nearly 68% of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day, and over one-third of the country lives below the national poverty line. For children, the picture is even more urgent — 74% experience multidimensional poverty, meaning they lack access to basic needs like food, healthcare, education, and safe housing.
Education should be a lifeline. But right now, over 1.5 million primary-aged children are out of school, many of them living in rural areas like Mbeya, where families simply cannot afford school fees, uniforms, or supplies. Even when children do attend school, an estimated 89% of 10-year-olds in Sub-Saharan Africa are unable to read and understand a simple sentence. The need is real, and the time to act is now.
A Model That Works
Following the incredible success of DaySpring Academy in Zambia, WayMaker is bringing its proven school model to Tanzania. We are currently raising funds to build a preschool for 90 children in Mbeya, and we’re aiming to open in time for the start of the Tanzanian school year.
This model is built to last.
70% of school places will be offered to fee-paying families who can afford it, covering the school’s running costs and staff salaries.
30% of places will be fully or heavily subsidised, reserved for the most vulnerable children, including orphans and those living in extreme poverty.
