Break the Cycle of Poverty: Help a Child Go to School, Eat, and Dream of Tomorrow

In a nation where 1 in 5 children live without their parents, your support can open the door to education, dignity, and a future filled with hope.

In Zambia, 42% of people live in extreme poverty.

Over half the population is under the age of 18, and 1 in every 5 children does not live with their parents due to abandonment, poverty, or the devastating impact of HIV and AIDS.

According to Save the Children and The Borgen Project, the struggle for basic needs — food, housing, and healthcare — often means children are kept out of school and sent to work instead. While primary education is technically free, many schools require ‘voluntary’ contributions, uniforms, shoes, supplies, and transport. For many families, these costs are simply out of reach.

42% of Zambians are classified as extremely impoverished

“Levels of poverty remain high across Zambia, with over half of the population living in poverty … Additionally, more than half of the population is under the age of 18.” (Save the Children)

“As almost half the population consists of children, child poverty is a grave concern. Many Zambian children lack adequate healthcare, nutrition and housing. Families’ struggles for these basic needs force them to keep their children out of school, and instead, send them into the workforce.” (Borgen Project)

“Despite Zambia having one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, it remains one of the world’s poorest countries. Currently, close to 64% of Zambians live under $2 a day and the majority of those who earn more barely make ends meet.” (Habitat for Humanity)
